Root Cellar Sound & BCTV Present Performance of Jungle Book Tale Live from the Kipling House November 14
On Friday November 14 at approximately 12:30pm, Root Cellar Sound in collaboration with Brattleboro Community Television will present a performance of the Jungle Book tale 'Kaa's Hunting', broadcast live from Naulakha, author Rudyard Kipling's house, in Dummerston. The performance features a dramatized reading of the tale by local poet and musician Gordon Korstange and writer and radio show host Vidhi Salla, alongside electronic sound effects and live music played on the 20-stringed slide guitar by Joel 'Veena' Eisenkramer. Audiences can tune in from their living rooms, watching live on Comcast channel 1078, at @BrattleboroCommunityTV on YouTube and through the website brattleborotv.org/live/events.
'Kaa's Hunting' tells the tale of young Mowgli's adventures getting to know his neighbors as a jungle-dweller and the true meaning of the all-important Laws of the Jungle. It features the beloved characters of Baloo the bear, Bhageera the panther, Kaa the massive rock python and Mowgli, the young "manling" who is lost from his village as a baby and raised by wolves in the jungle alongside a host of other colorful animals from the Indian jungle.
The broadcast of Kaa's Hunting is in celebration of 50 years of Brattleboro Community Television and is part of a full day of live programming. BCTV will be broadcasting throughout the day on November 14 from their studios in downtown Brattleboro, the Stone Church and via their mobile broadcasting unit. Kaa's Hunting was performed at the Kipling House last year by Korstange, Salla and Eisenkramer as part of a private presentation celebrating some friends' wedding anniversary. That recording was released through Root Cellar Sound, the Guilford-based record label, on Joel Veena's Bandcamp page and streaming services in April of this year.
The performance on November 14 will be particularly special as it will allow viewers to experience the story told directly from the very place where Rudyard Kipling wrote the Jungle Books. The best-selling author built his house in Dummerston, called Naulakha, in 1892 as a retreat for himself and his children. Friday's broadcast will be from the author's library; made possible by generous collaboration from the Landmark Trust, who administers the property.
